Jeffrey Schlapp
Trial Attorney
Formerly the Vice President of a corporately-owned nursing home chain, Jeff became an attorney to accomplish what he could not from inside the corporate structure; improve the lives and care of nursing home residents by holding corporations accountable and forcing change through the court system.
Jeff comes to the Horwitz firm experienced in the inner workings of corporate nursing homes, with in-depth knowledge of federal regulations, and he can look at a nursing home cost report and see exactly how the facility is shorting its residents for profit. Jeff has already contributed a lot to the firm and we all expect great things from him in the future.
Jeff Weighs In On Joining the Horwitz Team
"I worked for 13 years in the health care field prior to attending law school. Specifically, I worked in the nursing home industry where I held different positions beginning as a Social Service Director and eventually working my up to Vice President of a large chain here in Illinois. "I decided to go to law school with the goal of suing nursing homes to ensure the elderly will receive the care they so deserve."
I delevoped a passion for creating programs that would increase the affordability of health care to the elderly as well as provision of the highest care within the nursing home setting. Sadly, I learned that the owners didn't always have the same thoughts and I became frustrated with both owners of nursing homes, as well as regulatory oversight. Thus I decided to utilize my expertise of State and Federal regulations and laws and go to law school with a goal of prosecuting cases against nursing homes to ensure the elderly will receive the care they so deserve. bng
Prior to coming to Horwitz, Horwitz and Associates, I worked for the City of Chicago prosecuting municipal ordinance violations.

I have spoken before Illinois State Legislators on the subject of nursing home neglect.
I am married, no children, but we have a 10 year old chocolate lab (GUS) who thinks he's human. In my spare time I love to read, I am a WWII buff, and I am the biggest Cubs fan in the world."
