The Cost of Political Complacency

Wednesday, October 25th 2006

For the young union member, perhaps new to the brotherhood of organized labor, the subject of politics often holds a distant second to other pressing issues; housing, healthcare, fuel costs.

However, it is the political climate today that most threatens all that bonds organized labor, and threatens too, a way of life that was born out of the blood of past union members. Will the current work force, both young and old, heed the call to action, or buy into the convenience of corporate-controlled sound bites?

"The bread box is definitely tied to the ballot box. Members of organized labor must pay attention and dig a little deeper than the sound bites offered on the nightly news.

Tim Smith, President, UAW 145 speaks to the political climate today and what it means to the future of tomorrows labor movement.

Tim's interview was playing this morning(10/31) while John Laesch(Democratic candidate 14th Congressional District)just happened to be at the union hall. Tim's political views are so appropriate to labor and the election on November 7th. We all need to be more informed about the candidates and make sure to vote for those that will take care of our future.
