Injury Lawyer News: Construction Worker Falls From Roof

Construction Injuries

Falls have long held the top spot as the most common cause of construction injuriesEquipment World argues that they are also the most preventable type of accident. In fact, most falls could be averted by using proper railings, harnesses and other safety equipment.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) often cites employers who fail to take the proper precautions. Now, the agency is organizing a Fall Prevention Campaign, designed to spread awareness about the issue.

If all employers followed OSHA regulations, the number of construction accidents could decrease by as much as 30 percent. Many construction workers aren’t worried about working on a ladder or on the second story of a building, but even short falls can prove deadly if the worker lands on his or her head.

Chicago Construction Accident

CBS Chicago reports that a local construction worker fell while on the roof of a building and died. Authorities believe that he fell through a hole in the roof that wasn’t marked. He fell approximately 35 feet and died on impact.
OSHA regulations require employers to properly mark holes and install railings to prevent falls of this nature. Unfortunately, some business skirt these regulations in an attempt to save time.

Worker Dies After Construction Accident in a Hotel

According to the LA Times, a construction employee was working on the third story of a hotel building when he fell out of a window. The man was dead by the time emergency personnel arrived. Initial reports relayed few specifics about the situation, but more recent ones suggest that the man was trying to avoid a moving cart.
The cart struck him, forcing him out of the third story window. Soon after the accident, federal investigators with OSHA began inspecting the scene to determine whether or not safety violations played a role in the accident.
If the man’s employers acted negligently, they could face severe fines.
