CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (March 25, 2026) – A recall has been issued for the Wagner Spray Tech 900 Series Power Steamers because they can pose a serious burn injury risk to consumers.

The recall took place on March 19, 2026. Roughly 700,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the attached hose can get excessively hot while the steamer is being used. The nozzle can also expel hot water after the trigger is engaged.

This creates a serious burn hazard to consumers. The manufacturer has received 156 incident reports where the hose became excessively hot and expelled hot steam.

This led to roughly 50 incidents where consumers who have received first-degree and second-degree burns. The steamers could be purchased at numerous stores, including The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, and Amazon.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Consumer Products

Manufacturers that create consumer products must ensure that these products are reasonably safe. To that end, products must be rigorously tested in all of the ways that they will likely be used. Manufacturers should also take into consideration all relevant safety standards related to their product category. There are many ways that a steam cleaner could potentially be defective.

  • A steam cleaner could have leaking seals or gaskets that allow steam to escape.
  • A steam cleaner could have defective trigger valves that allow steam to leak without user input.
  • A steam cleaner may lack temperature regulation systems.
  • A steam cleaner may have improper insulation and allow users to be shocked in wet environments.

If a product has designed defects that make it likely a consumer will be injured during normal use, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. When taking into consideration whether or not a product is considered defective, it matters whether or not any other people have potentially been injured by the same product. When there is a large number of people who have all been injured in a similar manner with a specific product, this can strengthen the likelihood that a product manufacturer will be liable.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Consumer Products

Many people have been injured by steam cleaning products. In particular, Bissell is another company that has had to recall millions of steam cleaners after it was discovered that dozens of people were being injured by the device. According to ABC News, “the company said it has received 183 reports of hot water or steam expelling from Steam Shot units so far and 157 reports of minor burn injuries.” Multiple actions should be taken after any person is injured by a steam cleaner.

  • Victim should seek medical treatment as early as possible. Even seemingly minor injuries can turn out to be much more serious.
  • The affected product should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
  • It should be determined if the steam cleaner was on any recall lists.
  • Any person injured by a steam cleaner should consider their legal options with a team experienced in product liability law.

Being injured in an accident involving a consumer product can have many negative consequences. Victims are often left with high medical bills. They may also need to contend with long-term nerve damage. In particular, the cost to treat burn injuries can be well above $10,000. Any person injured by a defective steam cleaner may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
