17 Stories Furniture 18-Drawer Dressers Recalled Over Federal Violations of Mandatory Safety Standards that Makes It Dangerous for Children

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (January 11, 2026) – A recall was issued for 17 Stories Furniture 18-Drawer Dressers because they pose a risk of serious injury or death for young children.
The recall was issued on December 18, 2025. Roughly 2800 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the 17 Stories Furniture 18-Drawer Dressers can be unstable if they are not anchored to a wall. In particular, the dressers can tip over and seriously injure or trap children.
The dressers also violate mandatory safety standards set by the STURDY Act. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The dressers were originally manufactured in China and could be purchased at Wayfair.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Consumer Products
Companies that design consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the likely ways that their product could be used and even misused. If a company creates a product that is defective, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. A product may be defective in several different ways.
- A product may have designed defects if the issues that are wrong with it are inherent. Design defects exist before the product is manufactured.
- Products may also have manufacturing defects if only a limited number of items are problematic.
- Products may have marketing defects if they lack adequate instructions or fail to warn consumers about latent dangers.
Manufacturers must also comply with the STURDY Act when creating dressers. Among other things, dressers should not tip over when all of the drawers are opened. They should not tip over when a child pulls or climbs on them. They should not tip over when several drawers are extended. There are also minimum height requirements to ensure that the dressers are actually sturdy.
Steps to Take After Dresser Tip-Over Accidents
Many children are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents involving falling dressers. According to National Public Radio, “An estimated 18,000 Americans — nearly half of whom were children — went to emergency rooms across the U.S. in 2020 for injuries sustained when furniture, a TV or another appliance tipped over and hurt them.” Several actions should be taken after any dresser tip-over accident.
- Medical Treatment: Parents should seek medical treatment as early as possible for the children. Many injuries associated with these accidents will not be immediately obvious.
- Evidence Preservation: The product associated with the injury should be stored in a safe location where it is not likely to cause further harm. It is an important piece of evidence.
- Investigation: It should be determined if the dresser involved in the accident was part of any recall or otherwise violated safety standards.
- Legal Review: The parents of any child injured by dresser drawers should seek the guidance of experienced product liability attorneys.
Accidents involving dresser tip-overs are often highly preventable. They tend to involve situations where manufacturers failed to adhere to safety standards. Part of the problem is that many unsafe products get imported into the United States from countries with less rigorous safety standards. The family of any child injured by a falling dresser may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
