Adam Weathers, 28, of Joliet, Died in Collision With Semi-Tractor Trailer as Truck Turned Out of Business

JOLIET, ILLINOIS (September 13, 2025) – A 28-year-old man identified as Adam Weathers has tragically died in a Joliet semi-truck accident near the intersection of South Chicago Street and Schweitzer Road.
Will County officials are saying that the accident took place on Friday afternoon. Adam Weathers was driving down the road when a semi-truck made a left turn directly into the path of the Chevrolet Sonic he was driving.
The driver was unable to avoid the crash and hit the side of the truck. Authorities said that the force of the impact caused him to be ejected from his vehicle.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Adam Weathers was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center with critical injuries.
Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Joliet Police Department reconstructed the crash scene and is currently investigating what happened.
Liability for Joliet Semi-Truck Accidents
Many truck drivers cause collisions by making dangerous left turns. Pursuant to Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/11-902, any driver intending to make a left turn at an intersection or private business must first yield the right-of-way to any driver that is close enough to pose a hazard. There are many reasons that trucks can be dangerous as they make left turns.
- Wide Turns: Trucks often need to swing a wide distance to complete a left turn. This can easily confuse or trap drivers that are nearby.
- Blind Spots: trucks have large blind spots that can obscure the presence of pedestrians, cyclists, and smaller vehicles passing by.
- Slow Acceleration: Trucks accelerate much slower than passenger vehicles. This increases the length of time it takes for them to successfully complete a turn.
- Miscalculations: It is relatively easy for truck drivers to miscalculate the speed of oncoming vehicles, especially when these drivers are less experienced.
Semi-truck drivers are required to get a commercial license and are expected to operate with a great deal of caution to avoid collisions. Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers that trucks make. They account for nearly 10 times more collisions at intersections than drivers making right turns. If a truck driver makes a left turn into the path of another driver, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.
Third-Party Liability for Joliet Semi-Truck Accidents
If a truck driver was working at the time of a collision, their employer could be held at fault. As a general rule, employers in Illinois are vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers–insofar as those workers were operating within the course and scope of their job duties. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be many liable parties for a semi-truck accident.
- Truck Manufacturer: The company that created a truck could be held at fault for a collision if it was caused by some sort of defect.
- Truck Loading Company: There are safety regulations related to how trucks can be loaded. Overloading or improper loading can cause a truck to become unstable and make it more likely to crash.
- Truck Carrier: The company that owned or operated a truck could be liable for a collision if they encouraged truck drivers to violate federal trucking regulations.
Truck accidents are often complex events by their very nature. The factors that contribute to any collision could take place hours, weeks, or months beforehand. Unfortunately, truck drivers and their employers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility for any collision. This is why it is so important that evidence is properly preserved after any truck accident.
