Alicia Robles Injured In Chicago Food Truck Accident

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 26, 2024) – A Chicago food truck worker identified as Alicia Robles was seriously injured in a car accident by West 47th Street and South Whipple Street.

Cook County officials are saying that the incident took place earlier this month. Alicia Robles was working inside of her Mexican cuisine food truck when the vehicle was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe.

That driver fled the scene and is currently being sought by police. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

Alicia Robles was taken to the hospital in order to receive care. She sustained major burns after being splashed with hot oil from inside the mobile kitchen.

She is facing high member bills and a lengthy recovery period. Her son organized a GoFundMe to help cover medical bills and ease the financial strain caused by the accident.

A full investigation into the accident remains ongoing.

Liability For Chicago Car Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States and across Illinois. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Motor vehicle crashes are preventable but continue to be a leading cause of death in the United States, resulting in an average of 36,791 deaths each year (101 deaths each day) during 2015–2019.” There are a number of common causes of car accidents.

  • Speeding remains the main cause of car accidents. Drivers are much more likely to lose control of their vehicle at higher rates of speeding.
  • Vehicle system failures may also contribute to a crash. This may include instances when the brakes on a vehicle give out.
  • Distracted driving is another major contributing factor in collisions. Many drivers get distracted by their phones or other electronic devices.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid causing collisions. Pursuant to Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/11-601, “No vehicle may be driven upon any highway of this State at a speed that is greater than is reasonable and proper with regard to traffic conditions and the use of the highway, or endangers the safety of any person or property.” If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a civil claim.

Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for a collision. If the at-fault driver was working at the time of a collision, their employer could be held at fault. Pickup trucks, vans, and certain other vehicles are often used for commercial purposes. Generally speaking, employers are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. It is important that certain steps are taken after a car accident.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records related to the crash should be collected.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.

It can be hard to know where to begin after a car accident. Many victims must contend with high medical bills. They may also need to take lengthy periods of time away from work. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have rights. They may be able to seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your options are.
