BASDEHEN Kitchen Faucets Recalled After Tested Devices Were Found to Contain Lead That May Leach Into Water
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 13, 2025) – BASDEHEN Kitchen Faucets have been recalled because they put users at serious risk of lead exposure.
The recall was issued on May 29, 2025. Roughly 24,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the BASDEHEN Kitchen Faucets were tested and found to contain lead. This lead can leach into the water that comes out of it and may be particularly dangerous to infants and small children.
In addition to lead, the faucets were also found to have other harmful contaminants. The model number for the recalled BASDEHEN Kitchen Faucets is CFDTTH-000-YGH.
They were sold exclusively on Amazon by Chenfeng Store.
Liability for Consumer Products Containing Lead
Lead is an extremely dangerous substance that can have many negative health consequences. According to the World Health Organization, “Exposure to lead can affect multiple body systems and is particularly harmful to young children and women of child-bearing age. Lead is distributed to the brain, liver, kidney and bones. It is stored in the teeth and bones, where it can accumulate over time. Human exposure is assessed through the measurement of lead in blood.” Exposure to lead can also lead to decreased cognitive performance and lower IQ. There are many different reasons a consumer product may contain lead.
- Lead is often used as a pigment and is still occasionally found in certain imported toys.
- Lead is used as a solder in many electronic items.
- Lead is occasionally put in crystal glassware to enhance clarity and weight.
Companies have a legal obligation to create products that are reasonably safe. To that end, they must abide by all safety regulations. Many different products are forbidden from having lead. This includes any products used for eating and children’s toys. When a company creates a product that is inherently unsafe because it contains lead, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. There are several elements that must be demonstrated in any civil claim alleging strict product liability.
- The defendant sold the product that the plaintiff refused.
- The defendant was the commercial seller of the product.
- The plaintiff sustained an injury by using the product.
- The product was defective at the time that it was sold.
- The defect was the actual and proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injuries.
Despite regulations, many consumer products still contain lead. Most of the affected items are imported products. Part of the problem is that using lead is often cheaper than safer alternatives. Another major problem is that the oversight for potentially dangerous imported products is not as rigorous as it arguably should be. Any person that is injured by a consumer product that contained lead may be able to seek some measure of accountability for a civil claim.
