Branch Issues Recall of Popular Ergonomic Chairs Due to Risk of Serious Injury Due to Fall Hazard

.
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 3, 2026) – Branch has issued a recall for its popular Ergonomic Chairs because they pose a major risk of injury due to fall hazard.
The recall was issued on September 3, 2026. An estimated 16,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the brackets of the chairs can inadvertently detach. This creates a real risk that users may fall and seriously injure themselves.
The SKU model for the affected unit is 11-01-00-50-V5. The manufacturer has received 11 reports of the brackets detaching from the chairs.
There have been no reports of injuries at this time. The ergonomic chairs were originally manufactured in Thailand and sold in various stores, including Amazon and Office Depot.
Liability for Injuries Involving Office Furniture
Product manufacturers in the United States have a legal obligation to create products that are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the ways that their product could potentially be used and even misused. Product liability claims asserting negligence are typically based on the idea that the product involved was defective in some way. A product could be defective because of its design, due to issues with manufacturing, or even because of a lack of adequate warnings. Courts will take into consideration numerous factors when evaluating liability for any accident involving office furniture.
- It matters whether or not any chair or other piece of furniture was manufactured according to design specifications.
- The quality of materials used to create the chair is also important to consider. They should be strong enough to support the weight of most adults.
- Another important consideration is whether any mandatory statutes were violated.
- It also matters whether the affected products adequately warned users about latent dangers.
When a company manufactures a product that is defective, they could be held strictly liable for any accidents in which a person is injured. Consider, for example, Mikolajczyk v. Ford Motor Co., 231 Ill. 2d 516 (Illinois Supreme Court 2008). In that case, the driver of a Ford Escort was struck from behind, thereby causing them to suffer a fatal brain injury. Attorneys for the plaintiff alleged that the driver’s seat was defective due to the way it collapsed following the accident.
How Companies Can Prevent Accidents Involving Consumer Products
Accidents involving defective consumer products send millions of people to the emergency room every year. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “In 2020, an estimated 28,535,000 people sought medical attention for an injury related to, but not necessarily caused by, a consumer product. This is a decrease of more than 7.7 million (21 percent) from the 2019 estimate.” There are a number of steps that companies can take to help prevent accidents involving their products.
- Companies should strictly test their products to look for potential issues.
- Companies should properly warn about all of the dangers associated with their products.
- Companies should issue a quick recall if they learned that their product is dangerous or otherwise defective.
- Companies should strictly adhere to all state and federal safety guidelines.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident involving a consumer product. Many victims are not even aware that they may have legal recourse. After any accident involving a consumer product, it is important that evidence is properly preserved. In particular, an attorney can review all of the relevant evidence for your case, and let you know if you have a legal claim that is worth pursuing. Damages in a product liability claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
