Liability For Injuries Involving Liquid Fuel Bottles
Accidental poisoning remains one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death for children. According to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, “Each year, poison control centers get more than 1 million calls about accidental poisonings of children ages 5 and younger. More than 9 in 10 poisonings in children are in the home.” Companies should take a number of measures to prevent children from being accidentally poisoned by their products.
- Consumer goods should be placed in child-resistant packaging.
- Consumer goods should be clearly labeled with warnings about potential dangers.
- Consumer goods should be designed with safety in mind.
- Consumer goods should adhere to all relevant guidelines set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Companies that manufacture bottles with flammable substances must do everything in their power to prevent children and other adults from being injured by those products. When a product fails to meet safety regulations set forth by the CSPC or FDA, they could be held strictly liable in the event that someone is injured. Companies must also warn consumers about the dangers of their products. Exposure to liquid fuel bottles can lead to very serious injuries.
- Respirator Irritation
- Chemical Pneumonitis
- Central Nervous System Effects
- Gastrointestinal Irritation
- Chemical Burns
- Neurological Damage
Children must always be kept in mind with certain products. They simply do not always have the common sense and reasoning abilities that adults do. Certain products must be placed in child-resistant packaging. Sadly, though, companies will often take shortcuts in terms of safety in order to save money. Far too often, small children and their families are the ones that have to pay for the results of this negligence.
