Caframo Cabinet Heaters By Caframo Limited Recalled Over Concerns They May Pose Electrocution Hazard

Caframo Cabinet Heaters Recalled Over Electrocution Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 21, 2024) – Caframo Cabinet Heaters by Caframo Limited were recalled because they may inadvertently electrocute users.

The heaters were called on September 19, 2024. Around 2,140 units were sold, including 200 units sold in Canada.

The problem with the Caframo Cabinet Heaters is that the crimp holding a wire in place was not properly finished. This may result in the wire detaching, which can then create an electrical hazard.

No injuries have been reported thus far.

Liability For Accidents Involving Home Heaters

Space heaters are involved in many serious accidents every year. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “heating fires remained the second leading cause of home fires in 2021. An estimated 32,200 home heating fires were reported to fire departments within the United States. These fires caused an estimated 190 deaths, 625 injuries and $442 million in property loss.” These heaters can also pose an electrocution hazard. There are several steps that can be taken to prevent heaters from becoming an electrocution hazard.

  • Heaters should always be installed by a trained professional.
  • Heaters should be protected by Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters.
  • Owners should regularly check power cords and plugs for fraying.
  • Owners should avoid overloading circuits.

Companies that make heaters have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must comply with all safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. When a company creates a product with design defects, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. Electrocutions can leave victims with very serious injuries.

  • Electrical burns
  • Thermal burns
  • Arc burns
  • Cardiac injuries
  • Neurological injuries
  • Respiratory injuries

A company could also be liable for failing to warn consumers about the non-obvious dangers associated with their products. Sadly, though, companies will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if someone is injured by their product. They may blame the manufacturer, installer, or even the consumer. This is why it is so important for accident victims to seek legal advice as early as possible.
