Cranach Hardware Issues Recall for Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits Because They Create a Tip-Over Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 4, 2025) – Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits have been recalled because they can pose a tip-over and entrapment hazard to young children.
The recall was issued on October 23, 2025. Roughly 55,170 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits can break or degrade over time. This creates a serious risk that any dressers attached to them can fall over and seriously injure or kill children.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that it is aware of at least 150 incidents where the plastic tip restraints broke. This resulted in a total of six incidents where pieces of furniture tipped over.
The Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits were initially manufactured in China.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Dresser Tip-Over Accidents
Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. They must continue to be safe over time, even in certain adverse conditions. This necessitates that companies test their products to ensure they are compliant with all safety guidelines. If a product has defects likely to lead to an accident, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are a number of reasons that plastic furniture restraints could break over time.
- Material Degradation: Manufacturers may have chosen plastic that is more susceptible to degradation. Restraint kits should be able to withstand sunlight and other forms of UV radiation.
- Temperature Cycling: Manufacturers may choose materials that expand and contract over time, thereby leading to microcracks.
- Improper Installation: Manufacturers may advise consumers to utilize insufficient anchoring restraints.
Plastic has many known weaknesses. In situations where cables must be load-bearing, it is typically better to use metal brackets or steel cables. However, these material choices can be more expensive even though they’re safer. It is fairly common for companies to prioritize products that are cheaper with high profit margins over potentially safer alternatives.
Steps to Take After Accidents Involving Furniture Restraints
Many children are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents where dressers and other furniture tipped over onto them. According to National Public Radio, “An estimated 18,000 Americans — nearly half of whom were children — went to emergency rooms across the U.S. in 2020 for injuries sustained when furniture, a TV or another appliance tipped over and hurt them.” It is important that parents of injured children take certain steps to protect their legal rights.
- Medical Evaluation: Any child injured by a dresser that tipped over should receive a thorough medical evaluation. This is particularly important since many tip-over accidents lead to head injuries and other trauma that may not be outwardly visible.
- Evidence Preservation: All of the evidence related to the accident should be collected and properly preserved. This includes the dresser and restraints that may have malfunctioned. They should be stored in a secure location where they’re not likely to cause additional harm.
- Legal Support: The parents of any injured child should carefully consider all of their legal options with an experienced product liability attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of any case free of cost and let you know how much compensation you may be entitled to.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident where your child has been. Dresser tip-over accidents can result in traumatic brain injuries, organ damage, and positional asphyxia. The companies that make consumer products that malfunction will virtually never accept responsibility if their product hurts your child. This is why it can be so useful to have an attorney carefully review the facts of your case.
