Droyd Multi-Purpose Helmets Recalled Due To Injury Risk

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (October 19, 2024) – Droyd Multi-Purpose Helmets by Reyhee Group were recalled because they can create a risk of head injury to users.

The recall was announced on October 10, 2024. Around 400 units were recalled.

According to the notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled helmets do not comply with federal safety regulations for bicycle helmets. In particular, they do not recall with positional stability and impact requirements.

The recalled helmets have a serial number of (DHM000001” or “DHL000001”). They were originally manufactured in China.

Liability For Injuries Caused By Faulty Helmets

Bicycle helmets are critical in reducing instances of severe head injuries. According to one study in the National Institutes of Health, “The use of bicycle helmets was found to reduce head injury by 48%, serious head injury by 60%, traumatic brain injury by 53%, face injury by 23%, and the total number of killed or seriously injured cyclists by 34%.” But for bicycle helmets to be effective, they must comply with safety standards.

  • Helmets must absorb the impact of a fall or crash against hard surfaces.
  • The straps for bicycle helmets must remain securely fastened and not stretch excessively.
  • Helmets must protect the top and sides of the head.
  • Helmets must not obscure the rider’s vision.

Companies that create helmets have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. They must ensure that their helmets comply with all safety standards. Testing is also critically important. Helmets must be designed to be rigorous enough to survive in a variety of different real world scenarios. When companies fail to adhere to federal safety regulations, this could form the basis of a strict liability claim. Victims of bicycle accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage

When people buy helmets and other safety products, they expect those to be safe. But far too often, companies value profits and expediency above creating products that are actually safe. Part of the problem is that a large portion of the unsafe helmets that are being sold in the United States were actually manufactured in countries with less stringent safety standards. It is important that victims of bicycle accidents understand that they do have rights. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
