ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS (March 14, 2026) – At least eight people were hospitalized after being exposed to chemicals at the Byron Nuclear Plant near Rockford.

Ogle County officials are saying that the accident took place on Monday. Workers at the Byron Nuclear Plant were exposed to some type of non-radiological chemical used in plant systems.

It apparently escaped from a holding tank in the turbine building. The sheriff’s office said that there was no ongoing danger to the public.
