Firefly Fuel Issues Recall for Firefly Safe & Green 32 oz Fuel Bottles Because They Violate Multiple Mandatory Safety Standards

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 27, 2025) – Firefly Safe & Green 32 oz Fuel Bottles have been recalled because they pose a serious risk of injury or death from poisoning to young children.
The recall was issued on August 14, 2025. Around 11,275 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Firefly Safe & Green 32 oz Fuel Bottles lack adequate child-resistant packaging. To make matters worse, the liquid in the bottles is clear like water, and the bottles’ shape arguably resembles a water bottle.
Moreover, the nozzle on the product is also not child-resistant. This violates a mandatory standard and creates a serious risk of deadly poisoning for young children.
If any hydrocarbons get into a child’s lungs, they can cause chemical pneumonia and serious pulmonary damage. The product is also incorrectly labeled as “Non-Toxic.”
No injuries have been reported at this time.
Preventing Children from Being Injured by Consumer Products
Many children are seriously injured every year in accidents involving consumer products. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “Unintentional pediatric poisoning deaths spiked 37 percent in 2021, with 59 children under five years old losing their lives after gaining access to prescribed or illicit drugs.” There are a number of safety standards designed to prevent child poisoning.
- The Federal Hazardous Substances Act requires clear labeling of toxic products.
- Products that may be dangerous to children must have adequate child-resistant packaging. Prescription bottles should have push-and-turn caps.
- The Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires child-resistant packaging for many common household products.
Children are naturally curious and may try to open products that could be dangerous to them. Child-resistant packaging and adequate warning labels can prevent many unintentional poisonings. Unfortunately, it is common for companies to cut corners when it comes to adhering to safety standards.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Dangerous Products
Companies that make gardening products have a legal obligation to ensure that these products are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration the possibility that children could gain access to their products. If a company fails to put their product in adequate child-resistant packaging, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Any person injured by a dangerous product may be entitled to numerous damages.
- Medical Bills: Victims may be able to seek compensation for all of the medical expenses that accrue as a result of any injury.
- Lost Wages: Victims may be able to receive compensation for any lost wages that stem from an injury.
- Pain and Suffering: Victims may be able to receive compensation for any pain and suffering that they endure as a result of an injury.
A company could also be liable for any accident where a child is injured on the legal theory that the affected product had marketing defects. Companies have a legal duty to warn consumers about the non-obvious dangers associated with their product. If a product lacked adequate warning labels, this could form the basis of a failure to warn claim. The family of any child injured by a defective product should seek legal assistance as early as possible.
