Prepared Hero Issues Recall for Hero Fire Spray Canister Over Major Fire and Burn Hazard

.
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 23, 2026)Ā – Hero Fire Spray Canisters have been recalled because they can pose a major risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazard.
The recall was issued on September 10, 2026. An estimated 31,000 units were sold before the recall notice.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has indicated that the spray canisters can potentially deteriorate over time. This could cause them to rupture and fail in the event of an actual fire.
This poses a major risk of injury or death from fire. The firm has received at least nine reports of the spray canisters exploding or deteriorating while left in storage.
No injuries have been reported at this time. The Hero Fire Spray Canisters were originally manufactured in China.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Fire-Suppression Products
Companies that produce fire-suppression products must ensure that those products are reasonably safe and not likely to malfunction at a critical time. Any type of defect with a fire-suppression system could potentially become a hazard in and of itself. Federal law requires that manufacturers, distributors, and retailers report any suspected instance where a product is dangerous. Numerous considerations will be made when evaluating whether or not a manufacturer or other entity is responsible for an accident involving some product.
- One important consideration is whether manufacturers followed all relevant safety standards.
- Another important consideration is whether the manufacturer was aware of any latent dangers with their product and failed to warn the public about them.
- A company may have failed to test their product and all of the ways that that product was likely to be used and misused.
- Courts will also take into consideration the overall utility of the product and balance that against any potential risk of harm.
When a company creates a consumer product that is defective and causes someone to be injured, they could be held strictly liable for any resulting injuries. Consider, for example, Rose v. Figgie International, Inc., 229 Ga. App. 848, 495 S.E.2d 77 (Georgia Court of Appeals 1997). A fire extinguisher’s pressurized nozzle allegedly separated from the canister inside of an apartment. This released chemicals into the apartment that caused a person to sustain respiratory injuries. Attorneys for the plaintiff argued that the accident was likely due to a manufacturing defect, even though the original unit was discarded and couldnāt be inspected.
Steps to Take After Being Injured by a Consumer Product
Fires remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. It is therefore particularly important that any fire-suppression equipment is reliable during the early stages of any fire. According to one report by the U.S. Fire Administration, there were an estimated 344,000 fires, 10,000 injuries, and nearly 3,000 deaths in 2023 alone. Several actions should be taken after any accident involving a consumer product.
- Victims should receive a thorough medical evaluation.
- The product involved in the accident should be stored in a secure location, so it can be examined at a later date.
- It should be determined if there is a history of similar accidents involving the product.
- Victims should carefully consider their options with an experienced product liability attorney.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident involving a consumer product. Victims are often left with life-changing injuries that can compromise their ability to work or even perform ordinary tasks. Unfortunately, product manufacturers and their insurance providers are not likely to accept responsibility if some type of defect with their product caused someone harm. This is why it is smart for victims to carefully consider legal options with an experienced attorney.
