Colerinsec Issues Recall for Jerify Magnetic Stick Figure Toy Sets Due to Injury Hazard and Violations of Mandatory Safety Standards

.
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 25, 2026) – The Jerify Magnetic Stick Figure Toy Sets have been recalled because they pose a serious risk of injury or death due to magnet ingestion.
The recall was announced on September 17, 2026. An estimated 38,507 units were sold prior to the recall.
A recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission indicated that the Colerinsec toy sets have small high-powered magnets that can be ingested by children. This violates the mandatory safety standard set for children’s toys.
If a child were to swallow the magnets, they could attach to one another and become lodged in that child’s digestive tract. This could lead to major perforations, blockages, and blood poisoning resulting in death.
Colerinsec sold the toys online at Amazon from October 2022 through May 2026. The toys were originally manufactured in China.
CPSC officials said that they were aware of two reports of children who required that ingested magnets be removed from their bodies. Both of those incidents required the child to be hospitalized.
Liability for Injuries Involving Toys With Small Magnets
Toy manufacturers have a legal obligation to ensure that their products are reasonably safe and compliant with all federal safety guidelines. This necessitates that any toys they manufacture are rigorously tested in all of the ways that they will likely be used and even misused. There are specific requirements for toys that contain small magnets. Under 15 U.S.C. § 2056b, manufacturers are prohibited from using small magnetic components that fit inside of the federal small parts test cylinder with a flux index of 50 kG² mm² or greater. Courts will take into consideration numerous factors when evaluating liability for any accident involving a product with small magnets.
- They will consider whether the magnets were easily detachable.
- They will consider the age range that the toys were intended for.
- They will consider whether the product had warning stickers that indicated potential hazards.
- They will consider whether or not other children have been harmed by the toy in question.
When a manufacturer creates a product that violates federal safety standards, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. Under strict product liability, manufacturers are liable if their products are defective, even if they exercised a great deal of care to avoid harm. There are many different ways that a product could potentially be considered defective. This includes instances where a product lacks adequate warning labels to let consumers know about non-obvious hazards.
Magnet Ingestion Risks and Seeking Accountability
It has long been understood that toys with magnets pose a major injury risk to young children. According to one report by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were 26,600 magnet ingestion incidents treated in hospital emergency departments from 2010 through 2021. These incidents resulted in seven known deaths. It is important that several actions are taken after any child is harmed by a toy with magnets.
- The child should be taken to the hospital as early as possible. Unfortunately, children who swallowed magnets are at a severe risk of developing highly serious complications.
- It should be determined if the toy involved in the incident was on any recall lists.
- The product involved in the incident and all of the packaging should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
- The family of any child harmed by a toy with small magnetic parts should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.
It can be difficult to know what to do after any accident involving a toy with small magnets. These incidents routinely leave families with high medical bills and children with serious complications. Unfortunately, manufacturers are not likely to accept responsibility if one of their toys causes a child to be injured or killed. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party. Family members are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
