Kesyup Mattresses Recalled Due to Serious Fire Hazard

ZCK01 Issues Recall for Kesyup Mattresses Over Fire Risk and Violations of Mandatory Safety Standards

.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (October 2, 2026) – Kesyup Mattresses have been recalled because they pose a risk of serious injury or death from fire hazard.

The recall was issued on September 24, 2026. An estimated 48,405 units were sold prior to the recall.

Apparently, the Kesyup Mattresses violate mandatory flammability standards for mattresses. This creates the risk that someone could be seriously injured or killed in the event of a fire.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The affected units were sold on Amazon from December 2024 through April 2026.

Affected mattresses come in twin, full, queen, and king sizes.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Mattresses

Federal law prohibits manufacturers from creating products that violate flammability standards, as outlined in the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s mattress standards guidance. In particular, 16 C.F.R. § 1633.3 requires that mattresses not exceed 15 MJ of heat release over a 30-minute test period. This is designed to reduce the intensity with which any mattress is supposed to burn. Courts will take into consideration numerous factors when evaluating liability for any incident involving a mattress.

  • They will consider the outcome of any flammability testing and evaluate whether or not production units matched those that were tested.
  • They will also consider whether any changes in materials or assembly helped create a potential fire hazard.
  • They will also review whether or not the mattress in question was part of a recall for safety violations.
  • They will consider the behavior of manufacturers and importers after any recall has been announced.

When a company creates a product with safety defects, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. This was well illustrated in Bunny Bear, Inc. v. Peterson, 473 F.2d 1002 (1973). A crib mattress manufacturer challenged a federal safety standard related to cigarette ignition testing. However, the court ruled that the cigarette ignition testing should also apply to the crib mattress.

Reducing Bedroom Fire Risks

Residential fires remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. Many of these fires occur in the bedroom. The National Fire Protection Association has estimated that fires beginning with mattresses or bedding caused an estimated 300 civilian deaths and over 900 civilian injuries over a four-year period from 2019 through 2023. Several steps can be taken to help reduce the risk of bedroom fires.

  • Consumers should routinely check for recall notices related to their mattresses.
  • Consumers should maintain functional smoke alarms at all times.
  • Consumers should plan an escape route in the event of a fire.
  • Companies that manufacture consumer products should ensure that those products are routinely tested in all of the ways that they will likely be used and even misused.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after any fire involving a consumer product. These incidents routinely leave victims without any place to live. They may also contend with very severe burn injuries that require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. Sadly, companies that make defective products are not likely to accept responsibility when someone is actually seriously injured or killed. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
