KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens Recalled Over Strangulation Hazard

One Death Reported in Accident Involving KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens

KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens Recalled Over Strangulation Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 10, 2025) – Backyard Kids has issued a recall for the KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens because they can inadvertently strangle children.

The recall was issued on July 31, 2025. Roughly 192,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the hazard occurs when children are climbing on the counter or crawling through the opening at the back of the kitchen.

In these scenarios, a child’s clothing could become caught on the plastic and metal hooks. They are used to hold the kitchen accessories. This could lead to them becoming strangled by their own clothing.

One child from Oregon has reportedly died after his shirt became caught on one of the hooks. The child was not able to free himself and died due to asphyxia.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Children’s Toys

Toy manufacturers must take numerous steps to ensure the toys and other products that they sell are reasonably safe. This includes complying with all federal safety standards. It also includes conducting proper tests to ensure that toys don’t inadvertently become choking or strangulation hazards. There are many ways that a toy could be unsafe.

  • Poor Structural Integrity: A toy may have been constructed from non-rigid materials that allow it to break apart easily.
  • Magnet Hazard: A toy may have small and powerful magnets that could pose a serious injury risk to children if they are ingested.
  • Sharp Edges: a toy could have sharp edges that could puncture the skin of a young child.
  • Toxic Materials: A toy could contain lead or other toxic materials.

Companies that manufactured children’s toys can be held liable if those products cause injury or death to children. In particular, many product liability claims involving children’s toys are pursued on the basis that the manufacturer failed to warn about the latent dangers of their products.

Preventing Accidents With Children’s Toys

Accidents involving children’s toys remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death for young children. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “An estimated 206,400 toy-related injuries were treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments in 2021, and males accounted for 58 percent of the injuries.” Companies should take several steps to prevent accidents.

  • Companies should issue clear warning signs and instructions that indicate which ages a toy may be suitable for.
  • Companies should take into consideration all of the ways that their toys could be used and misused.
  • Companies should avoid sharp edges and small detachable parts that could create choking hazards.
  • Companies should promptly issue recalls when they become aware that their toys are causing children to be injured.

Companies will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their toys injures a child. They will hide behind their team of lawyers and insurance providers. This is why it is so important that accident victims seek experienced legal guidance. An attorney can evaluate any accident with a consumer product and give an informed opinion on the legal rights of the parents.
