KTEBO Writing Tablet Toys Recalled Over Battery Ingestion Risk

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 19, 2025) – KTEBO Writing Tablet Toys have been recalled because they pose a risk of serious injury or death for young children.

The recall was issued on December 4, 2025. Roughly 10,380 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the KTEBO Writing Tablet Toys have screws for battery compartments used to contain button cell batteries.

The button cell does not remain attached as required. If the button cell is swallowed by a child, this could cause serious injuries and even death.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Toys

Manufacturers that create children’s toys must exercise a great deal of care to ensure that their products are safe. They must comply with all federal safety standards and take into consideration all of the ways that their product could be used and even misused. For example, it is well known that children will throw toys and step on them. Toys should not fracture into small pieces that could be ingested. There are also requirements for toys that contain button cell batteries.

  • A toy must prevent a child from being able to access the battery. Battery compartments must require a tool and have a child-resistant design.
  • The batteries and toys must also remain secure after a drop test and various tension tests.
  • Products that contain button cell batteries should come with a warning label.

Many product liability claims are pursued on the basis that a manufacturer failed to warn. In essence, a manufacturer could be liable for injuries caused by their product if they did not warn consumers about the inherent dangers associated with that product. This may include instances where manufacturers failed to note that a product contains button cell batteries or other small parts that could pose a choking hazard.

Injuries Commonly Associated With Button Cell Battery Ingestion

Many children are injured in accidents involving button cell batteries every year. According to the National Safety Council, “If swallowed or placed in the nose or ears, button batteries can cause serious injury or death. More than 3,500 people of all ages swallow button batteries every year in the United States.”

  • Victims may sustain major burns to their esophagus.
  • Victims may sustain perforations of their esophagus.
  • Victims may sustain a major hemorrhage that could be fatal.
  • Victims may suffer from chronic swallowing difficulties.

The vast majority of accidents involving children’s toys are preventable. They tend to involve situations where manufacturers failed to follow federal safety guidelines. Part of the problem is that many unsafe toys get imported from countries that may not have rigorous safety standards. Any person injured by a defective toy may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim.
