JOHNSBURG, ILLINOIS (September 14, 2026) – A 22-year-old man identified as Lucky Kuthe was seriously injured in a Johnsburg golf cart accident near the intersection of Cedar Creek Drive and Shiloh Drive.

Johnsburg police officials are saying that the accident occurred around 9:48 PM on Saturday evening. Lucky Kuthe was the passenger in a golf cart that reportedly turned over and ejected him.

The victim was thrown into the roadway and sustained traumatic head injuries. These included a skull fracture and multiple broken facial bones.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Lucky Kuthe was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

The driver of the golf cart has since been arrested on suspicion of operating the golf cart while under the influence. You can help support the victim through GoFundMe.

According to the online fundraiser, “Sunday night was supposed to be spent celebrating Lucky’s 22nd birthday. Instead, it became the most terrifying night of our lives. Lucky was riding as a passenger in the back of a golf cart when he was thrown from it. He was not the driver. He suffered a traumatic head injury, a skull fracture, a brain bleed, a broken nose, and multiple broken facial bones. He was first taken to McHenry Hospital before being airlifted to Park Ridge for a higher level of care.”

Liability for Johnsburg Golf Cart Accidents

Drivers in Illinois have a legal obligation to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner. This necessitates that they abide by all traffic regulations and travel at a reasonable speed. It is illegal to operate any golf cart or other vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or an intoxicating substance. Pursuant to 625 ILCS 5/11-501, “A person shall not drive or be in actual physical control of any vehicle within this State while:  (1) the alcohol concentration in the person’s blood, other bodily substance, or breath is 0.08 or more based on the definition of blood and breath units in Section 11-501.2.” There are many ways that a driver may have acted negligently prior to a golf cart crash.

  • Speed: A driver may have been traveling too fast for the prevailing road conditions.
  • Turn: A driver may have been turning too sharply, thereby causing the golf cart to overturn in the roadway.
  • Impairment: A driver may have been operating a golf cart while under the influence of alcohol or some other substance.
  • Recklessness: A driver may have operated a golf cart with a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of passengers or other people.

Depending on the facts of any case, there could be several sources of liability for any golf cart accident. One additional source that comes to mind may be through negligent entrustment. Negligent entrustment is a legal theory that places responsibility on the person that loaned a vehicle to someone who otherwise should not have had it. For example, a golf cart rental service could potentially be liable for an accident if they allowed someone to drive it that was visibly intoxicated.

Steps to Take After Illinois Golf Cart Accidents

Golf cart collisions can cause very serious injuries even though these vehicles tend to operate at relatively lower speeds. One study from the Journal of Safety Research found that there were an estimated 156,000 people who were treated in US emergency departments in golf cart accidents from 2007 through 2017. Roughly half of the injuries involved a person that fell out of the golf cart or was ejected during a turn. It is important that several actions are taken after any golf cart accident.

  • Victims should seek medical attention as early as possible. Even seemingly minor injuries can turn out to be far more serious.
  • These circumstances surrounding the incident should be thoroughly investigated by the police.
  • Any person that may have witnessed the collision should be interviewed as early as possible, while their memories are still fresh.
  • It should be determined who owns the golf cart. It matters whether or not the golf cart was being rented at the time of the crash.
  • Victims should carefully consider their legal options with a team experienced in negligence claims.

Golf cart collisions require careful examination of multiple different facts and pieces of evidence. Unfortunately, negligent drivers and their insurance providers are not likely to accept responsibility for any golf cart collision. This is particularly true if the driver involved may have been intoxicated. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a golf cart driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
