Mamisan Lidocaine Ointment Containers Recalled Over Child Poisoning Risk

Plantimex Issues Recall for Mamisan Lidocaine Ointment Containers Over Injury Risk and Violations of Mandatory Safety Standards

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 26, 2025) – Plantimex has issued a recall for its Mamisan Lidocaine Ointment Containers because they pose the risk of causing serious injury or death to young children.

The recall was issued on December 18, 2025. Around 50,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Mamisan Lidocaine Ointment Containers do not come in child-resistant packaging. This is required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

If a child were to swallow the ointment, they could be seriously injured or killed. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The Mamisan Lidocaine Ointment Containers were sold at Target stores nationwide from April 2024 through October 2025.

Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to make them reasonably safe. They must anticipate all of the ways that their product could potentially be used and even misused. If a consumer product has design defects, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Moreover, companies must follow all safety guidelines required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

  • Certain household substances must be placed in child-resistant packaging.
  • Packaging must meet certain testing protocols. For example, children should not be able to open containers within a specified time.
  • Reclosable packaging must remain child-resistant after being opened.

The vast majority of child poisoning incidents are preventable. They tend to involve products that fail to meet safety standards. One of the problems is that many of the dangerous products on the market are imported from countries with less strict safety regulations. The family of any child injured by a consumer product may have legal recourse through a product liability claim.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Consumer Products

Unintentional poisonings remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death for young children. According to one study in Cureus, “Childhood poisoning is a prevalent and significant public health issue, with a higher incidence among children under the age of five due to their natural inquisitiveness and impulsive behavior. A total of 257,312 hospital visits were analyzed, with 85.5% being emergency department visits and 14.5% being inpatient admissions.” Several steps should be taken after any unintentional poisoning.

  • Medical Attention: Parents should seek medical attention for their children immediately.
  • Medical Records: All medical records related to injuries and treatment should be gathered.
  • Evidence Preservation: The product that caused the poisoning should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause further harm.
  • Legal Review: Parents should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.

It can be absolutely devastating to watch your child suffer after any unintentional poisoning accident. Children may sustain long-term damage or trauma. Parents may also be left with high medical bills. It is important that parents carefully consider their legal options. They may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a product liability claim. There are no upfront costs associated with hiring a product liability attorney. They work entirely on a contingency fee basis.
