Liability In Chicago Lawn Gas Explosion Accidents
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in residential explosions. According to WBTV, “since 2010 there have been more than 2,700 gas leak incidents across the country that were considered significant and that 362 of those incidents resulted in explosions. Additionally, those incidents have injured nearly 700 people and killed more than 140.” There are a number of common causes of natural gas explosions.
- Gas pipelines may not be properly maintained.
- A construction company may inadvertently damage gas lines.
- Natural gas appliances may not be hooked up correctly.
Depending on the facts of any case, a gas company could be liable for a gas explosion that injures someone. Gas companies have a legal obligation to maintain their lines. This includes performing leak surveys. When a gas company fails to properly maintain their lines and this leads to an explosion, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of natural gas explosions tend to suffer very serious injuries including:
- Burn injuries
- Lacerations
- Organ damage
- Head injuries
Many victims may not realize the full extent of their injuries for several months after an accident. The medical bills associated with burn injuries can also be extremely expensive. It is important to remember that accident victims do have legal rights. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with pursuing any legal claim. It is therefore important to act quickly.
