Milwaukee Tool Issues Recalls for M18 FUEL 14″ and 12″ Top Handle Chainsaws Because They Can Cause Serious Lacerations

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 18, 2025) – Milwaukee M18 FUEL Top Handle Chainsaws have been recalled because they pose a serious laceration hazard to users.
The recall was issued on October 30, 2025. Roughly 90,860 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the chainsaw’s chain brake may not properly activate. This could pose a risk that it seriously injures users.
The manufacturer has received two reports of the chain brake not properly activating. This led to one injury where a person sustained a lacerated finger.
The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Top Handle Chainsaws were manufactured in the United States.
Liability for Accidents Involving Chainsaws
Companies that create chainsaws and other consumer goods have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must abide by all safety regulations to test their products for all of the real-world scenarios that they would likely be used in. There are several ways that a chainsaw may potentially be dangerous.
- Kickback: A chainsaw may have a dangerous kickback tendency. Kickback occurs when the upper tip of the chainsaw is ejected backwards towards the user’s face.
- Chain Breakage: A chainsaw may have a poorly tensioned chain that could snap off mid-use.
- Environmental Hazards: If a chainsaw is used in certain conditions, it is more likely that an accident will occur. This includes situations where a chainsaws is used to cut wet logs.
If a product malfunctions and injures a consumer, the company that manufactured that product could be held at fault through a product liability claim. Generally speaking, companies can be liable for accidents that are caused by defects with their product. They can also be liable if they failed to warn consumers about the reasonably expected dangers they will encounter.
Steps to Take After Chainsaw Accidents
Many people are injured in accidents with chainsaws every year. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Each year, approximately 36,000 people are treated in hospital emergency departments for injuries from using chain saws. The potential risk of injury increases after hurricanes and other natural disasters, when chain saws are widely used to remove fallen or partially fallen trees and tree branches.” Any person injured in a chainsaw accident should take certain steps to protect their health and legal rights.
- Medical Evaluation: Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation, even if their injuries only seem minor.
- Evidence Preservation: The chainsaw involved in the accident should be stored at a secure location where it’s not likely to cause further harm. It is an important piece of evidence.
- Legal Review: Any person injured by a chainsaw should carefully consider their legal options with an experienced product liability attorney.
Many people who are injured by chainsaws will often blame themselves. But the fact of the matter is that many accidents with chainsaws are due to design defects. In particular, it is important to understand if a chainsaw was on any product recall list. This is why it is so important that victims carefully consider their legal options. An attorney can evaluate the unique facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are.
