Liability For Madison County Truck Accidents
Semi-trucks account for a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the roadway. But they are involved in a disproportionate number of serious collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2022, 5,837 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 1.8% increase from 2021 and a 49% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is up 3% from 2021, and up 24% in the last 10 years.” Truck companies should take a number of steps in order to prevent collisions.
- Truck companies should ensure that their drivers are well-trained and have a commercial license.
- Truck companies should ensure that their fleet is regularly inspected and well-maintained.
- Truck companies can install safety features on their vehicles, including forward collision avoidance systems.
Truck drivers are required to have a commercial license and are held to high standards in terms of safety. Many truck accidents involve truck drivers making dangerous left turns. Drivers must yield the right of way to any vehicle close enough to pose a hazard. If a truck driver makes an unprotected left turn in front of another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
Truck accidents are typically highly preventable. They tend to occur when truck drivers are distracted or overworked. In fact, nearly 10% of all truck drivers involved in a fatal collision reported feeling under pressure from work. Any person injured in a truck accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. It is crucial that evidence is properly preserved after any collision.
