PEORIA, ILLINOIS (May 28, 2022) – A Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy was seriously injured in a Tazwell County car accident with a pickup truck on I-74.

Tazwell County police officers are saying that the accident took place on Tuesday afternoon. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy was in his SUV when he was rear-ended by a GMC pickup truck.

The force of the impact caused both drivers to lose control of their vehicles and roll into a ditch.  Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the deputy.

He was transported to a hospital with major injuries. The driver of the GMC Sierra was charged with driving too fast for conditions, following another vehicle too closely, improper lane usage and illegal possession of medical marijuana.

A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
