Clorox Puerto Rico Issues Recall for Over 6 Million Bottles of Scented Mistolin and Lestoil Multi-Purpose Cleaners Due to Bacteria Exposure Risk

.
CHICAGO, ILLINOISĀ (September 3, 2026)Ā – Clorox Puerto Rico has issued a recall for Scented Mistolin and Lestoil Multi-Purpose Cleaners because they pose a risk of bacterial exposure.
The recall was issued on September 3, 2026. Roughly 6.3 million units were sold prior to the recall.
The full name of the products is the Scented MistolinĀ® Dilutable Cleaners and LestoilĀ® Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaners. They were sold in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled products may contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa. People who have any type of weakened immune system are at risk of developing a serious infection if they come in contact with this bacteria.
The bacteria can enter the body through various outlets, including inhalation and absorption through the skin. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Consumer Products
Puerto Rico’s 2020 civil code allows companies or persons that sell unreasonably dangerous products to be strictly liable. It is not necessary for a plaintiff to provide proof of negligence. See, for example, Puerto Rico Civil Code of 2020, Articles 1542ā1544. Creating products that are safe requires that manufacturers routinely test those products and abide by federal safety regulations. In any case that involves contamination, courts will examine multiple pieces of evidence to determine who could be legally responsible.
- They will examine manufacturing and quality control records.
- They will examine lot numbers and distribution records to trace the products as they move through the supply chain.
- They will examine laboratory testing results to determine when a product may have become contaminated.
- They will review labels and instructions on the product to evaluate whether or not consumers were adequately warned.
When a manufacturer fails to take reasonable actions to prevent dangerous contamination, they could be held legally responsible for any resulting injuries. One important case in this area is RodrĆguez MĆ©ndez v. Laser Eye Surgery Management of Puerto Rico, Inc., 195 D.P.R. 769 (Puerto Rico Supreme Court 2016). That case involved a patient who developed an eye condition after a laser surgery. Attorneys for the plaintiff argued that there was a causal connection between the alleged defect with the equipment and the plaintiff’s resulting injury.
How An Attorney Can Help After a Bacterial Contamination
Bacterial contamination is unfortunately much more common than many people realize. Most of that contamination is from food products. According to Traceone, āan estimated 48 million people in the United States get sick from foodborne illnesses each year. Of these, approximately 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die. Bacterial contamination of retail meatāparticularly by pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli, and Campylobacterāis a major contributor to this.ā There are many ways that an attorney can help after any bacterial contamination from a product.
- An attorney can trace the source of the contamination and find all responsible parties.
- An attorney can handle all negotiations with insurance providers.
- An attorney can work entirely on a contingency fee basis until your case is resolved.
- An attorney can take into consideration all of the ways that you’ve been harmed in order to maximize the value of your claim.
Bacterial contamination involving cleaners and other products is often highly preventable. It tends to be the results of major safety lapses. Unfortunately, product manufacturers are not likely to accept responsibility if one of their products causes someone to be harmed. It is important for victims to understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
