SUNS International Issues Recall for Residential Elevator Interlock Switches Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death Due to Falling

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 12, 2026) – SUNS International has issued a recall for its Residential Elevator Interlock Switches because they can pose a serious risk of injury and death to consumers.

The recall was issued in June 2026. Roughly 7000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the SUNS SS6291 Solenoid Interlock Switches can become stuck in a retracted position. This could allow the exterior door of the elevator to remain unlocked.

Accordingly, the flaw poses a serious risk of injury or death. If the elevator is closed to another floor, all the switches are in a retracted position.

SUNS International has received one report of an interlock switch becoming stuck. There have been no reported injuries at this time.

Liability for Injuries Involving Defective Elevator Switches
