Multi-Vehicle Collision Caused Semi-Truck to Become Wedged on Top of Car Along Interstate 94 in Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS (October 31, 2025) – At least three people were injured in a Lake Forest semi-truck accident on Interstate 94 by the 21 Mile marker.
Lake Forest officials are saying that the collision took place around 4:29 p.m. on Monday. A semi-truck and multiple other vehicles were headed down Interstate 94 when they were involved in a collision.
The force of the impact caused the semi truck to wedge on top of a passenger vehicle that was pushed into the center median. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to extricate all of the victims.
Three people were transported to the hospital with various injuries. A full investigation into the Lake Forest truck accident remains ongoing.
Liability for Lake Forest Truck Accidents
Semi-truck drivers must obtain a commercial license and are expected to operate their vehicle with a great deal of caution. They must maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead of them. Pursuant to Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/11-710, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Multiple other factors could contribute to a truck accident.
- Speed: A fully loaded semi-truck traveling at freeway speeds can take the length of two football fields to come to a complete stop.
- Fatigue: Truck drivers are often asked to work long hours. They may naturally become fatigued.
- Inclement Weather: Poor weather conditions are another major cause of truck accidents. Rain can substantially increase the time it takes for a truck to be brought to a safe stop.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Liability for any truck accident could extend beyond a driver held at fault. The company that a truck driver worked for could be held at fault for a collision. Generally speaking, employers can be held vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
Steps to Take After Lake Forest Truck Accidents
Truck accidents account for a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the roadway. But they are involved in a disproportionate number of fatal collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 5,375 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 8.4% decrease from 2022 but a 43% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is down 8% from 2022, but up 22% in the last 10 years.” Victims of truck accidents should take certain steps to protect their rights.
- Any person injured in a truck accident should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
- The police should be called to the scene of the accident as soon as possible so that they can create an official record of what happened.
- The circumstances leading up to the crash should be thoroughly investigated.
- Information for the data recorder on the truck should be carefully reviewed and considered.
- Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced truck accident attorney.
Truck accidents tend to be highly preventable. They often involve numerous safety lapses. This could include situations where a truck driver failed to check their blind spots before changing lanes. Driver experience also matters. Younger and less experienced truck drivers are much more likely to be involved. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a personal injury claim. A truck accident attorney can examine the unique facts of your case to let you know what your legal options are.
