Liability For Chicago Police Vehicle Accidents
Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of serious injury and death in the United States. According to IIHS, “There were 35,766 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2020 in which 38,824 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.7 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.34 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to an accident.
- Inclement weather
- Poor road conditions
- Distracted driving
All drivers are supposed to yield the right-of-way to police officers with their lights and sirens on. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting an emergency vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a civil claim. Sadly, though, drivers will often fight hard to deny responsibility for a collision.
