Investigation Underway After Two People Injured in Elgin Gas Line Explosion at Home Along West Chicago Street

ELGIN, ILLINOIS (June 19, 2026) – Two people were injured in an explosion at a home in Elgin along W. Chicago Street.

Cook County officials are saying that the accident took place around 4:30 PM on Wednesday. Construction crews at the property may have accidentally hit a gas line thereby triggering the explosion.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victims. Two people were transported to the hospitals.

Nicor Gas has been notified of the incident. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
