Vevor Baby Gates Recalled Due To Entrapment Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 3, 2024) – Sanven Technology has issued a recall for Vevor Baby Gates after it was determined they can pose an entrapment hazard for infants.

The recall notice was issued on October 31, 2024. Around 420 units were sold.

According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the gates violate federal safety regulation for expansion gates. In particular, a child’s torso can fit through the opening gate slat and side wall.

There have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Liability For Injuries Caused By Baby Gates

Injuries involving baby gates are unfortunately quite common. According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, “From 1990 through 2010, emergency departments in the United States treated an estimated 37,673 children younger than 7 years of age for baby gate-related injuries. That is an average of 1,794 per year, or about five injured children per day.” Companies that manufacture baby gates should make sure they adhere to safety regulations.

  • Baby gates are subject to height and spacing requirements. They must be a minimum height of 22 inches, and the spacing between the bars must be 2.5 inches or less.
  • Baby gates should come equipped with warning labels and instructions.
  • Baby gates should have a latch system to prevent children from opening them.

Companies that manufacture baby gates and other children products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. These companies must take into consideration all of the ways that their product could be used and even misused. If a company has actual or constructive notice that their product has a defect, they must take action. When a product is defective and this causes an injury, the company that made it could be held liable through a product liability claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any injury involving a baby gate.

  • Medical records related to the incident should be preserved.
  • It should be determined if the gate was part of any recall.
  • An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.

The vast majority of accidents involving baby gates are preventable. In most circumstances, companies may neglect safety features in order to save money. Another major problem is when manufacturers fail to put instructions with their baby gates. These products can easily be installed incorrectly, which further increases the odds of accidents and injuries. The family of any child injured by a baby gate may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
