Two Chicago Police Officers Injured in Serious Car Crash

In 2013, there were 895 fatal car crashes across the state of Illinois, according to research by the Illinois Department of Transportation. These wrecks caused 954 fatalities, which is an increase from previous years. Police suggest that the proliferation of smartphones and other modern distractions have contributed to the increase in fatal accidents.
While these figures are lower than other U.S. states, they are still a cause for concern. A serious or fatal car crash can leave a lasting impact on victims and their loved ones. Fortunately, if you have been injured in a car accident, you may be able to recover damages to pay for medical bills and lost wages.

Car Crash Injures Chicago Police Officers

The Chicago Tribune reports that two Chicago police officers sustained serious injuries, and another person suffered minor injuries, in a car crash late Saturday night. Police say the two officers were driving east in a police SUV on Irving Park Road with sirens and lights activated. They were responding to a request from another officer for assistance.
A car traveling in the opposite direction crashed into the police vehicle at high speed. The officers’ SUV left the roadway and crashed into a light post.
One of the police officers broke multiple bones, and emergency workers transported him to the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition. The other went to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment. Though they were both in serious condition, their injuries are not life-threatening.
The driver of the other car suffered no major injuries but received treatment at a nearby hospital. Police cited the driver for failure to give way to an emergency vehicle and for not having proof of insurance at the time of the crash.

Car Crashes Into Parked Vehicles

CBS Chicago reports that a man is in serious condition after he crashed into four vehicles in a Chicago neighborhood. The 31-year-old was driving in the early hours of the morning when—for no apparent reason—he left his lane and crashed into the vehicles alongside the road.
Emergency workers responded to the scene and transported the driver to Advocate Christ Medical Center. He was in serious condition. Police are still investigating the incident, and it is not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
