Recall Issued for Fixwal 7-Drawer Dressers Over Injury Risk and Violations of Federal Safety Standards
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (February 19, 2026)—A recall was issued for the Fixwal 7-Drawer Dressers because they can pose a serious risk of injury from tip-over and entrapment.
The recall was issued on February 5, 2026. Roughly 2900 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Fixwal 7-Drawer Dressers are unstable if they’re not anchored to a wall.
They pose a risk of entrapment for young children. Moreover, the dressers violate mandatory safety standards set by the STURDY Act.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Dressers
Companies that create dressers have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. They must rigorously test their products and all of the ways that they’re likely to be used and even misused. There are also safety standards that must be met. The standards are set forth by the STURDY Act.
- Dressers must be sturdy even when multiple drawers are open at once.
- Dressers must be tip-over resistant even if a small child is climbing on them.
- Dressers must be sturdy if they are 27 inches tall or taller.
If a consumer product violates mandatory safety standards, this could be construed as negligence. It could also form the basis of a product liability claim. A company could also be liable for injuries caused by a product that lacks adequate warnings about latent dangers. Product liability claims are typically pursued as a strict liability offense.
Steps to Take After Dresser Tip-Over Accidents
Many children are injured every year in accidents where dressers tipped over. According to WRAL News, “The safety requirements in the STURDY Act include changes safety advocates have wanted for years. At least 482 children have died in furniture tip-over accidents between 2000 and 2021.” Certain action should be taken after any dresser accident.
- Victims should seek medical treatment as early as possible.
- All medical records related to that treatment should be collected and preserved.
- The product that caused the injury should be stored in a secure location.
- Victims should contact an experienced product liability attorney.
It can be difficult to know what to do if your child has been injured by a dresser that tipped over. These accidents can leave children with lasting trauma. Many kids do not survive their injuries. It is important that victims understand they do have options. They’re able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a personal injury claim.
