ABC Trading Issues Recall for Toy Headband – Pink Bow with White Polka Dots Over Violations of Mandatory Safety Standards for Toys
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (May 26, 2026) – ABC Trading has issued a recall for their Toy Headbands, Electronic Pet Cage-Dinosaur Tribes, and My Pet Bird Cute Bird Tribes due to an injury hazard.
The recall was issued on May 21, 2026. Roughly 84,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled children’s toys violate federal safety standards related to batteries. In particular, they contain small button cell batteries in compartments that are easily accessible.
If a child were to swallow coin batteries, they could sustain serious injuries or die. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The toys were originally manufactured in China.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Children’s Toys
Many children have been injured or killed in accidents involving button cell batteries. According to the National Safety Council, “If swallowed or placed in the nose or ears, button batteries can cause serious injury or death. More than 3,500 people of all ages swallow button batteries every year in the United States. Most pass through the body and are eliminated, but sometimes they get hung up in the esophagus. An electrical current can form in the body, and hydroxide, an alkaline chemical, can cause tissue burns that can be fatal.” Companies should take several measures to prevent these types of accidents.
- Children’s toys that contain small batteries should have warning devices.
- Button cell batteries should not be in physically accessible areas that a child could open with their hands.
- Toys powered by cell batteries should be very sturdy and unlikely to break. If a toy breaks, this could expose the small button cell battery inside.
Companies can be liable for injuries caused by their products if those products were defective in some way. There are many different ways that a consumer product could potentially be defective. For example, a company could fail to warn consumers about the latent dangers associated with their products. They may also fail to abide by federal safety standards with respect to toys that contain button cell batteries. This could make them easily accessible to children, which is a violation of Reese’s Law. Such a violation could form the basis of a product liability claim. Several steps should be taken after any child is injured by button cell batteries.
- Parents should ensure their child receives prompt medical care. If left untreated, swallowing a battery can result in serious injury or death.
- All medical records related to treatment should be collected and preserved.
- It should be determined if the toy involved in the accident was on a recall list.
- Parents should seek the guidance of a skilled personal injury attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
Accidents involving button cell batteries are often highly preventable. Parents tend to blame themselves for these incidents. However, these incidents tend to involve companies that ignored safety standards. Part of the problem is that many children’s toys get imported from countries with less rigorous safety standards. The parents of any child harmed by a toy are able to pursue some measure of accountability for a civil claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
