Vitaquest International Issues Recall for Several Iron Supplement Bottles and Packets Over Poisoning Risk

Various Brands of Iron-Containing Dietary Supplements Recalled by Vitaquest International Over Poisoning Risk and Violations of Child-Resistant Packaging

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (April 19, 2026) – Vitaquest International has issued recalls for several iron supplement bottles and packets because they can pose a major risk of injury or death from poisoning to young children.

The recall was issued on April 9, 2026. Roughly 356,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the dietary supplements contain iron, which is required to be in child-resistant packaging. The standard has been sent by the Poisoning Prevention Packaging Act.

The lack of child-resistant packaging presents a risk that a child could ingest the contents and be seriously injured or killed in the process. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The recall involves many different brands of dietary supplements that contain iron. Affected brands include Arey, Bari Life, Bird&Be, Biote, Dr. Fuhrman, NuLife, HMR, Bariatric Pal, Noevir, Zenbean and Sakara.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Dietary Supplements

Companies that create dietary products containing iron and other substances that could be toxic to children have a legal obligation to ensure those products are in child-resistant packaging. They must also have sufficient warning labels that allow parents to know about the risk of having these products inside of their homes. There are several factors that could contribute to faulty dietary products.

  • Smaller companies may fail to interpret requirements correctly.
  • Companies may rely on outdated packaging that is non-compliant to save money.
  • Packaging errors often involve several different vendors. They could be the results of miscommunications that may lead to incorrect ingredient lists.

If a dietary supplement manufacturer fails to abide by federal safety regulations, this could serve as evidence of negligence. They could be liable for any resulting injuries through a product liability claim. A dietary supplement manufacturer could also be liable for injuries involving their products if those products lacked proper warning labels.

Steps to Take After Injuries Caused by Dietary Supplements

Accidental poisoning remains a leading cause of preventable injury and death for young children. According to the Children’s Safety Network, “In 2020, unintentional poisoning was the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths for children and adolescents ages 1-19. Drug poisoning was related to 73% of the unintentional poisoning deaths in children ages 0-9, and 96% of the unintentional poisoning deaths in adolescents ages 10-19.” Several actions should be taken after any child has been accidentally poisoned.

  • Parents should seek medical support for the child as early as possible.
  • The product that caused the injury should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
  • It should be determined if that product was on any recall lists.
  • Parents should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.

It could be difficult to know what to do after your child has been injured by a dietary supplement or other consumer product. Poisoning can result in lasting damage to a child’s organs and brain. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are taken seriously early on. The parent of any child harmed by a recalled dietary supplement may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil action. A product liability attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
