INIU Power Banks Recalled Over Fire and Burn Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 19, 2025) – INIU BI-B41 Power Banks have been recalled because the devices can pose a risk of catching fire and injuring consumers.

The recall was issued on December 5, 2025. Roughly 210,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the lithium-ion battery of the product could potentially overheat and ignite. This may cause the device to catch fire and burn consumers.

INIU has received 15 reports that the power banks overheated. This resulted in 11 fires and three cases where consumers were injured.

The devices could be purchased on Amazon for roughly $18. They were also originally manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Power Banks

Companies that create power banks and other products that use lithium-ion batteries have a legal obligation to make sure they are reasonably safe. They must comply with all federal safety standards and take into consideration known issues with their device category. It is commonly understood that power banks may overheat and potentially catch fire under adverse circumstances. This is known as thermal runaway. Several measures can be taken to prevent this from happening.

  • Chemicals: Companies should use safer chemicals when feasible to create battery components. These should be sourced from reputable suppliers.
  • Cell Protection: Companies should create pressure relief valves and flame-retardant electrolytes within the battery cells.
  • Thermal Isolation: Companies should create adequate physical spacing between the cells to prevent chain-reaction events.

Product liability claims based on negligence may assert that a product was defective in a number of different ways. For example, a product may have had design defects that are inherent to the way it was created. It is also possible that a product liability claim could be centered around a manufacturer’s failure to warn about the dangers of their products. Generally speaking, product liability claims are pursued under strict liability. A defendant could be liable if their product was defective, regardless of their intent.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by a Consumer Product

Far too many people are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents involving lithium-ion batteries. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Since 2022, New York City has experienced more than 800 fires sparked by lithium-ion batteries, leading to 30 deaths and more than 400 injuries.” Victims of accidents involving power banks should take a number of measures to protect their rights.

  • Medical Attention: Victims should seek medical attention as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with burns and other fire hazards may not be immediately obvious.
  • Evidence Preservation: All of the evidence associated with the accident should be collected and preserved. The device that cost harm should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause further harm.
  • Legal Support: Any person injured by a power bank should seek the guidance of a skilled product liability attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after being injured by a power bank or other consumer product. Burn injuries are among the most painful and costly injuries that people sustain. They often require numerous painful skin grafts and extensive follow-up care. Any person injured by a faulty product may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a product liability claim. Damages in a civil claim could help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
