Aterian Issues Recall for PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers and Mighty Lil Steamers Over Burn Injury Risk

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (February 22, 2026) – A recall was issued for the PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers and Mighty Lil Steamers because they can seriously burn customers.
The recall was issued on February 5, 2026. Roughly 200,000 units of the two steamers were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the steamers can expel hot water from the steam nozzle while they are being used. This creates a serious burn injury risk.
Aterian has received 14 reports of burn injuries involving the devices. They could be purchased at several online retailers, including Amazon and Walmart.
Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products
Many people have been injured in accidents involving steam cleaners. According to CBS News, “Bissell has received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the product, including 157 reports of minor burn injuries, according to the recall.” This has led to a recall of over 3.5 million cleaners. There are many potential defects with a steam cleaner that could cause injuries.
- A steam cleaner may have pressure system failures.
- A steam cleaner may have a malfunctioning cap.
- A steam cleaner may have failures related to the wand or hose.
- A steam cleaner may have inadequate waterproofing around the heating element.
When a steam cleaner or other product has some type of defect that is likely to cause injuries, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are many different defects with any consumer product that could give rise to a product liability claim. For example, a product may be considered defective if it failed to warn consumers about latent dangers.
Steps to Take After Injuries Involving Consumer Products
Injuries involving consumer products remain relatively common. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “In 2020, an estimated 28,535,000 people sought medical attention for an injury related to, but not necessarily caused by, a consumer product. This is a decrease of more than 7.7 million (21 percent) from the 2019 estimate.” Certain steps should be taken after any person is injured by a consumer product.
- Victims should seek medical attention as early as possible.
- Photos of any injuries should be taken.
- It should be determined if the product involved was on any recall lists.
- Victims should collect all evidence related to the incident.
- Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
Burn injuries are the most painful types of injuries that people will often suffer through. They require extensive skin grafts to treat. Any person injured by a steam cleaner may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. There are no upfront costs to hire an attorney, and they only get paid by the opposing party if they’re able to successfully resolve your case.
