Police Officer and Civilian Injured in Crash

The Chicago Tribune reports that a crash between a police officer and a civilian has sent them both to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police say the crash happened on Saturday morning on the South Side of the city.
The crash took place at 9 a.m. on South Union Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The police officer is in serious condition, and officials transported him to the nearby Stroger Hospital. The other person in the crash, a civilian, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to officials in the Chicago Fire Department.
The crash is still under investigation. It is not clear who was at fault or whether the police vehicle was chasing a suspect at the time.

Suspects Flee Car on Foot After Fatal Crash

CBS Chicago reports that two suspects have run from the scene of a fatal car crash, and police are currently searching for them. Chicago police have released photographs of the accident scene in an attempt to get more information on the suspects and the incident.
The crash was a head-on collision in Humboldt Park. It resulted in the death of a 63-year-old woman, who was driving a 1993 Ford Escort. Emergency workers rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she later died. An autopsy revealed she died of multiple injuries, and officials declared her death an accident.
Two males were in the car that crashed into the woman. They fled from the scene on foot, and police say they are not yet in custody. The Chicago Police Department is urging anyone who witnessed the accident or knows the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station.
