Cadillac Driver Injured In Naperville Car Accident By Olesen Drive and Chicago Avenue

NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS (February 1, 2023) – A 74-year-old man was injured in a Naperville car accident near the intersection of Olesen Drive and Chicago Avenue.

DuPage County police officials are saying that the collision took place around 8:51 a.m. on Monday. The driver of a black Audi was heading through the intersection and went through a red light before hitting a Cadillac.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the driver of the Cadillac. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police closed the intersection for several hours as they investigated.

Liability For Naperville Car Accidents

Speeding is one of the most common causes of car accidents in the United States. According to one report by the NHTSA, “Twenty-eight percent of fatal crashes, 13 percent of injury crashes, and 10 percent of property-damage-only crashes in 2020 were speeding-related.” Drivers are more likely to lose control at excessive speeds. There are several other factors that could contribute to a car accident.

  • Driver fatigue
  • Driver intoxication
  • Vehicle systems failures
  • Poor road conditions

Every driver has a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Pursuant to 625 ILCS 5/11-306, the driver of any vehicle facing a red circular signal must stop at the intersection and wait to proceed only after facing a green traffic signal. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that goes past a red traffic signal without stopping. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage

It can be hard to know where to begin after any collision. Many accident victims may not realize the full extent of their injuries for several weeks or months. Any person that is injured due to the negligence of another driver may have recourse through a civil claim. However, drivers will often fight hard to deny liability for any car accident. This is why it is so important that all evidence is properly preserved after any crash.
