Criblike Mattresses Recalled Over Entrapment and Suffocation Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 12, 2025) – Criblike Pack and Play Mattress XCD-002 have been recalled because they can pose a serious risk of entrapment and suffocation for young children.

The recall was issued on November 6, 2025. Roughly 117,900 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the aftermarket mattresses violate mandatory federal standards for crib mattresses. In particular, they do not typically fit certain portions of play yards or non-full-size cribs.

This can lead to situations where babies can become trapped and potentially suffocate in gaps between the mattress and a playpen. Moreover, the mattresses failed to meet mandatory standards for flammability.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The mattresses could be purchased from Amazon from May 2023 through September 2025.

They were originally manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries and Deaths Caused by Children’s Mattresses

Companies that create children’s mattresses have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must abide by all federal safety standards. Manufacturers must take into consideration all of the ways that their product could potentially be used and even misused. If a company fails to abide by federal safety standards and a child is injured, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Product liability claims asserting negligence will tend to fall into one of three categories.

  • Design Defects: A product may have designed defects. These are inherent to the way that a product exists and are present before it as manufactured.
  • Manufacturing Defects: It is also possible that a product has manufacturing defects. These are created due to some issue during the construction or production of a product. They tend to affect only a limited number of units of all created.
  • Marketing Defects: A product may have marketing defects if a company fails to warn about the potential dangers associated with the use of their product.

It is well known that mattresses can pose a serious risk to children under certain conditions. This is why it is so important for companies to take a number of measures to prevent accidents. Part of the problem is that many countries where these mattresses are produced do not have the same safety guidelines as those found in the United States. The family of any child injured by a children’s mattress may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a product liability claim.

Steps to Take After Injuries Involving Children’s Mattresses

Accidents involving crib mattresses may seem like freak occurrences. But the fact of the matter is that many children are injured or killed in these incidents every year. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “There were 523 deaths reported among children younger than age five – an annual average of 174 deaths – associated with, but not necessarily caused by, nursery products. Cribs/mattresses, bassinets/cradles, playpens/play yards, inclined infant sleep products, and infant carriers were associated with most (76 percent) of the fatalities reported from 2019 through 2021.” It is important that certain steps are taken after any injury with a consumer product.

  • Medical Attention: Parents should seek medical attention for their children as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with any accident may not be immediately obvious.
  • Evidence Preservation: All of the evidence associated with the accident should be properly collected and preserved. Any potentially dangerous mattress should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
  • Legal Support: Parents should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident where your child is injured. To make matters worse, companies that create children’s mattresses and cribs will virtually never accept responsibility if a consumer is injured. This is why it is so important for victims to carefully consider all of their legal options with experienced legal counsel.
