DR Power Equipment Walk-Behind Leaf Vacuums Recalled Over Injury Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (January 18, 2026) – A recall was issued for the DR Power Equipment Walk-Behind Leaf Vacuums because they can pose a serious laceration risk and injury hazard to consumers.

The recall was issued on January 8, 2026. Roughly 60,250 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, pieces of the leaf vacuum may inadvertently come loose inside of the unit. They can be shot out of the vacuum with incredible force.

This can lead to bystanders being seriously injured. DR Power has received a total of 46 reports of loose pieces being ejected from the units.

The devices were manufactured in the United States.

Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Companies that create consumer products must ensure that these products are reasonably safe. They must abide by all state and federal safety guidelines. If a consumer product has a propensity to injure consumers or bystanders, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Several elements need to be demonstrated in any prima facie case of product liability.

  • The defendant sold the product that the plaintiff used.
  • The defendant was the commercial seller of the product.
  • The plaintiff suffered an injury through their use of the product.
  • The product was defective at the time the defendant sold it.
  • The defect was the actual approximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.

Product liability claims are typically pursued on the basis of strict liability. In a strict liability case, a defendant can be liable for any instance where they are injured by a consumer product if they are able to prove that the product was defective. It does not matter what the intent of the defendant was. It is also irrelevant whether or not the manufacturer exercised a great deal of care to avoid harm.

Steps to Take After Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Injuries involving consumer products are actually very common. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “In 2020, an estimated 28,535,000 people sought medical attention for an injury related to, but not necessarily caused by, a consumer product. This is a decrease of more than 7.7 million (21 percent) from the 2019 estimate.” Certain action should be taken after any accident involving a consumer product.

  • Victims should seek medical attention early on. Many of the injuries associated with an accident may not be immediately obvious.
  • The product that caused the injury should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause further harm.
  • Eyewitnesses that may have seen the accident should be interviewed as soon as possible while their memories are still fresh.
  • Any person injured by a consumer product should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are.

Companies that make consumer products will virtually never accept responsibility if someone is seriously injured by using their product. They are likely to blame the victim or other third parties. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated. Any person injured by a defective consumer product may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
