ECHO Recalls Gas-Powered Backpack Blowers Over Fire Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 31, 2024) – ECHO has issued a recall for its Gas-Powered Backpack Blowers because they can create a fire hazard.

The recall was issued on August 1, 2024. Around 3,900 of the units were sold. The issue with the product is that the fuel supply line can leak gas, thereby posing a fire hazard.

The two model numbers for the affected units are PB-5810H and PB-5810T. Both models were sold at the Golden Eagle Distributing Company, of Rocklin, California and at independent stores nationwide.

No injuries have been reported thus far.

Liability For Fires Caused By Consumer Products

Residential fires remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “In 2022, local fire departments responded to an estimated 1.5 million fires in the United States. These fires caused 3,790 civilian fire deaths and 13,250 reported civilian fire injuries. The property damage caused by these fires was estimated at $18 billion.” A large portion of these fires are due to faulty consumer products. Companies should take a number of measures in order to prevent their products from becoming dangerous.

  • Companies should make sure that all of their products are rigorously tested.
  • Companies should implement strict quality control protocols during manufacturing.
  • Companies should remain compliant with all safety guidelines set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Companies that manufacture products sold to the public must ensure that they are safe. They can be liable for defective products. Product liability claims alleging negligence will typically claim that a product has one of three defects. A product may have manufacturing defects. A product may have design defects, which are inherent to the way it was built. A product may also have marketing defects if it lacks adequate warnings. Several steps should be taken after any person is injured by a consumer product.

  • Medical records related to the injuries should be collected.
  • The product involved should be examined.
  • It should be determined if the product involved was part of a recall.
  • An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.

There are a number of reasons that a product may be defective. In far too many situations, companies may rush a product to market and ignore safety standards. It is also possible that companies simply fail to envision all of the ways that consumers could conceivably use their products. Any person who is injured due to a defective product may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
