Endless Pools Issues Recall for Manual Retractable Pool Covers Over Drowning Hazard

Recalled Endless Pools Manual Retractable Pool Covers May Leave Gaps That Create Entrapment and Drowning Hazards

Endless Pools Issues Recall for Manual Retractable Pool Covers Over Drowning Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 22, 2025) – Endless Pools has issued a recall for their Manual Retractable Pool Security Cover because they can pose a serious entrapment and drowning hazard for children.

The recall was issued on June 12, 2025. Roughly 11,500 units were sold, including 400 in Canada.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled pool covers can leave a gap of about 4.5 inches between the cover roller and the surface of the pool. This may occur if the pool cover is installed improperly.

This gap can create a serious drowning or entrapment hazard for children. The Endless Pools Manual Retractable Pool Covers were manufactured in Aston, Pennsylvania.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Faulty Pool Covers

Accidental drownings remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death for young children. According to one study by the Centers for Disease Control, “Drowning is the number one cause of death for children 1-4 years old in the United States. Today’s study shows that drowning rates were highest among this age group. By race and ethnicity, the highest drowning rates were among non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native and non-Hispanic Black persons.” This is why it is so important that pools have certain safety features.

  • Certain pools should have fences with self-closing and self-latching gates.
  • Pools can also be equipped with covers that can support the weight of a child and thus prevent drowning.
  • Another safety feature that pools can have is door alarms that alert when the doors of a pool area are opened.
  • Of course, children should be supervised properly whenever they are near a pool.

Companies that manufacture pool covers have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe and adhere to all industry design standards. They must also warn consumers about all of the non-obvious dangers associated with the use of their product. If a company fails to include adequate instructions or warnings about their product, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim.

A product may be considered defective under product liability law, even if it lacked voluntary safety features. The relevant legal question is whether or not the risks of the design outweigh its utility. This is particularly important if there is a safer, more feasible, or more practical design alternative. It is important that certain steps are taken after any injury involving a consumer product.

  • Medical records related to any injuries should be preserved.
  • The product involved should be stored in a safe location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
  • It should be determined if the product was on any recall lists.
  • An experienced product recall attorney should be consulted.

Parents will do everything in their power to keep their children safe. For many parents that own property with a pool, they will often buy pool covers and other safety equipment to prevent drownings. But in far too many situations, the products meant to prevent harm may actually be part of the problem. Any person injured by a consumer product may be able to receive compensation through a civil claim.
