Grundens Youth Clipper 282 and Zenith 282 Jackets Recalled Over Strangulation Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 22, 2025) – Grundens Youth Clipper 282 and Zenith 282 Jackets have been recalled because they pose a major risk of strangulation for young children.

The recall was issued on October 30, 2025. Roughly 8850 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a drawstring and the hood of the jacket may wrap around the neck of a child and cause strangulation. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The Grundens Youth Clipper 282 and Zenith 282 Jackets were manufactured in China and Portugal.

Liability for Injuries Involving Children’s Clothing

Companies that manufacture children’s clothing have a legal obligation to ensure that their products are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the ways that their product could be used or even misused. If a piece of children’s clothing is defective or dangerous in some way, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are many ways that a piece of children’s clothing could be dangerous.

  • Flammability: A piece of children’s clothing could be flammable. Clothing typically should not be made of material that can easily ignite.
  • Choking Hazards: children’s clothing should not have small parts that can break off and potentially be swallowed. This includes buttons or decorative rhinestones.
  • Strangulation: children’s clothing should not have overly loose drawstrings or hoods that could potentially wrap around the neck of a child.
  • Toxic Material: Manufacturers should also take great measures to prevent any piece of children’s clothing from containing toxic materials.

Product liability claims may allege numerous types of defects. A piece of children’s clothing may have designed defects if it is inherently unsafe. Design defects are present before a product is manufactured. It is also possible that a piece of children’s clothing contains manufacturing defects. These types of defects only affect a certain number of units and occurred during the production or creation of a product.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Children’s Clothing

Many children are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents involving clothing. Young children were particularly vulnerable. According to one study in Medicine, “Cases of clothing-related injuries were most common in children aged 3 to 6 years (54.7%); the ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls in the 192 cases was 1.5.” It is important that certain actions are taken after any injuries by clothing.

  • Medical Evaluation: parents should ensure that their child receives a thorough medical evaluation. A medical evaluation can help reveal the presence of injuries that may not be obvious.
  • Evidence Preservation: The piece of clothing associated with the injury should be stored in a secure location where it’s not likely to cause further harm. It is an important piece of evidence.
  • Research: It should be determined if the affected clothing was on any recall lists.
  • Legal Support: Parents should explore their legal options with an experienced product liability attorney.

The vast majority of accidents involving children’s clothing are preventable. They tend to involve incidents where manufacturers failed to follow safety guidelines. To make matters worse, clothing manufacturers virtually never accept responsibility if a child is injured by one of their products. This is why it is so important for parents to seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney can examine any facts of your case to let you know what your options are.
