iWALK Magnetic Wireless Power Banks Recalled Over Fire and Burn Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 7, 2025) – iWALK Magnetic Wireless Power Banks have been recalled because they may overheat and ignite, thereby posing a serious injury risk.

The recall was issued on May 29, 2025. Around 27,500 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the lithium-ion batteries may potentially overheat at night. This may result in a fire and serious risk of injury to consumers.

U20 Global has received 15 reports of the lithium-ion batteries inside the devices catching fire. An estimated 10 people have sustained burn injuries from these fires.

Liability for Injuries Involving Power Banks

Fires involving products with lithium-ion batteries remain incredibly common. According to USA Fire Protection, “at least 25,000 fire or overheating incidents in lithium-ion batteries occurred in a five-year period. Furthermore, heat, smoke, toxic gases, and the potential for explosions are all dangers associated with lithium-ion battery fires.” There are many potential issues with a lithium-ion battery that could make it dangerous.

  • Thermal Runway: Any type of overheating with lithium-ion battery could lead to thermal runway. This is a chain reaction event that may result in the battery catching fire.
  • Short Circuits: Any type of manufacturing defect with the battery may result in a short circuit. This could potentially be caused by dendrite formation.
  • Physical Damage: If a lithium-ion battery is punctured or crushed, this could cause toxic chemicals to leak out and create a fire risk in the process.

Companies that create power banks have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must abide by all federal regulations for products with lithium-ion batteries. This includes performing adequate testing on the batteries and all the conditions that they will likely be used in. If lithium-ion batteries have design or manufacturing defects that are likely to result in a fire, the company that made them could be held accountable through a product liability claim. Victims of lithium-ion battery accidents tend to suffer grave injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Thermal burns
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Lung damage
  • Death

Lithium-ion batteries have become ubiquitous in modern society. They are literally in billions of devices. Part of the reason that these devices can become dangerous is that the companies that manufacture them cut corners. They try to produce these batteries as cheaply as possible. This could lead to them using subpar materials that are more likely to fail or ignite. Any person that is injured by a power bank may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
