LivingCaring Adult Portable Bed Rails Recalled Due To Entrapment Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 1, 2025) – LivingCaring Adult Portable Bed Rails have been recalled due to the risk that they can entrap and potentially kill users.

The recall was issued on May 15, 2025. Roughly 280 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the LivingCaring Adult Portable Bed Rails violated federal regulations for portable bed rails.

In particular, when the bed rails are in use, a person may become trapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress.

The LivingCaring Adult Portable Bed Rails also lack the required hazard warning labels.

Liability for Injuries Involving Portable Bed Rails

Many people have been seriously injured or killed in accidents involving portable bed rails. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “There are risks involved in using adult portable bed rails, however, including injuries from falls or entrapment, or death by asphyxiation from head, neck or chest entrapment. In fact, CPSC data show that 90% of injuries associated with adult portable bed rails are from entrapment of the head, chest or neck.” There are a number of potential issues with portable bed rails that could make them dangerous.

  • Gaps: Portable bed rails may have gaps that allow an adult’s torso to potentially become trapped if the rail doesn’t fit properly.
  • Collapse: If portable bed rails are poorly secured, they could potentially collapse or detach, causing the user to fall.
  • Improper Fit: Portable bed rails could be dangerous if they don’t adequately fit the mattress that they are being attached to.

Companies that make portable bed rails must ensure that they are reasonably safe. Among other things, they must ensure that the materials used to make their product are sturdy and not likely to collapse mid-use. These products should also have adequate warning labels to alert consumers about potential hazards. If a portable bed rail violates federal regulations, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. There are many different injuries commonly associated with portable bed rails.

  • Head injuries
  • Entrapment injuries
  • Strangulation
  • Limb injuries
  • Fractures

Portable bed rails are often used in a medical setting. It is possible that liability for any injury from a portable bed rail could extend beyond a product manufacturer. A nursing facility or care provider could potentially be liable if they failed to properly install a portable bed rail and this led to an injury. Any person injured after using a portable bedrail may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
