Makita Cordless Grease Guns Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard

Makita U.S.A., Inc. Issues Recall for Cordless Grease Guns and Grease Gun Hoses Over Injury Risk to Users

Makita Cordless Grease Guns Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 24, 2025) – Makita Cordless Grease Guns and Grease Gun Hoses have been recalled because they can pose a laceration risk to users.

The recall was issued on September 4, 2025. Roughly 62,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the flexible grease gun hose may develop a hole during use. This can allow grease to be ejected from the grease gun, which can pose a laceration hazard.

The Matika Cordless Grease Guns could be purchased at hardware stores nationwide. Matika has received five reports of the grease gun hose failing.

The devices were initially manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. They can be liable if their product malfunctions and injures someone. To prevent injuries, companies must rigorously test their products in all of the real-world scenarios that they are likely to be used in. Most product liability claims based on negligence will fall into one of three categories.

  • Design Defects: Design defects are inherent to the way that a product is created. They exist before a product is manufactured and make products unreasonably dangerous.
  • Manufacturing Defects: When only a limited number of products have flaws, this may be due to a defect during the manufacturing process.
  • Marketing Defects: A product may have marketing defects if it lacks adequate instructions. In particular, there may not be warnings about the inherent dangers associated with use of the product.

Many product liability claims are advanced on a strict liability standard. Under strict liability, a company is liable for a defect with their product if the plaintiff proves that it is defective. This doctrine is true regardless of the intent of the defendant. Any person injured by a defective product may be able to pursue financial damages through a product liability claim.

Injuries Associated With Power Tool Accidents

Accidents involving power tools remain very common. According to the BHHC Safety Center, “Every year in the U.S., power tool injuries result in approximately 400,000 emergency room visits, including both work and non-work-related incidents. More than 22,000 of these power tool accidents involve workers using nail guns.” There are many injuries associated with accidents involving power tools.

  • Broken Bones: The force of a power tool can easily lead to broken bones and fractures.
  • Lacerations: Grease guns and other power tools can exert a great deal of concentrated force. This can easily tear through skin and cause major lacerations.
  • Hand Injuries: Crush injuries and other trauma to a person’s hand are some of the most common injuries associated with power tools.

Being seriously injured by a power tool can be deeply disruptive to a person’s life. Victims may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They may also be left with high medical bills. To make matters worse, companies that create defective products will almost never accept responsibility when someone is injured. This is why it is important for victims to seek the guidance of an experienced injury attorney.
