Aurora Chiropractor Murtaza Hameed Charged With Sexually Abusing Two Boys

Murtaza Hameed Charged With Sexual Abuse at Arwa Chiropractic office

AURORA, ILLINOIS (June 1, 2025) – An Aurora chiropractor identified as Murtaza Hameed has been charged with sexually abusing two minors in his care.

The Aurora chiropractor was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault and five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. According to prosecutors, Murtaza Hameed sexually abused a 17-year-old boy at Arwa Chiropractic office on McCoy Drive.

After the boy returned home from his appointment, he told his father about what happened. The boy’s father then contacted the Aurora Police Department.

During the course of that investigation, authorities later discovered that a similar incident allegedly took place in 2016 involving a 16-year-old boy.

Murtaza Hameed is scheduled to appear in court on June 2. A full investigation into all of the allegations remains ongoing.

Liability for Sexual Abuse Involving Medical Professionals

Sexual abuse involving medical professionals remains very common. According to one study in ScienceDirect, “Two thirds (67%) of the doctors of chiropractic were disciplined for fraud and sexual boundary issues, compared with 59% for negligence and substance misuse for medical physicians. Additional study in each profession may reveal methods to identify causes and possible intervention for those who are at high risk.” Medical offices should take a number of measures to prevent sexual abuse.

  • Strict Hiring Practices: All medical professionals and staff should undergo thorough background checks, especially for any history of sexual misconduct.
  • Clear Training: Medical offices should develop and enforce clear codes of conduct with respect to acceptable behavior and boundaries.
  • Reporting: Medical offices should have anonymous reporting mechanisms in order to uncover potential misconduct.

Hospitals and other medical offices have a legal obligation to protect patients from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This includes protecting patients from abuse. To that end, medical offices should adequately supervise all of the doctors and medical professionals on their payroll. Certain vulnerable groups, including children, may need additional supervision so that they can remain safe. If a medical doctor sexually abuses a patient, their employer could potentially be liable for what happened through a negligent hiring claim.

There have been a number of criminal cases involving chiropractors who have allegedly abused patients across Illinois. Consider, for example, the criminal complaints against Terry Smith of Warrenville. He faced a number of charges over allegations that he sexually abused and assaulted former patients at his chiropractic office. It is important that certain actions are taken after any instance of sexual abuse involving a medical professional.

  • A police report detailing the incident should be created.
  • Medical records related to the abuse should be preserved.
  • The history of possible misconduct involving the assailant should be understood.
  • An experienced sexual abuse attorney should be contacted.

Sexual abuse in a medical setting is often highly preventable. It tends to be the result of a lack of proper supervision. By the time any doctor is arrested for sexual misconduct, there were likely many missed red flags. Part of the problem is that people are too reluctant to report misconduct that they encounter. Any person who is sexually abused by a chiropractor or other medical professional may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
