New Cosmos USA Issues Recall for Natural Gas + CO Alarm Recalled Because It May Fail to Detect Natural Gas and Carbon Monoxide
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 3, 2024) – New Cosmos USA issues recall for Natural Gas + CO Alarm due to the risk that the devices may fail to perform as intended.
The recall was issued on November 14, 2024. Around 26,360 units were sold. The issues with the Natural Gas + CO Alarm are that the devices may fail to detect gases and carbon monoxide while in sleep mode.
The devices were initially manufactured in Japan. No reports of injuries have been made at this time.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that can be lethal when inhaled in high amounts. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Each year, more than 400 Americans die from unintentional CO poisoning not linked to fires, more than 100,000 visit the emergency room, and more than 14,000 are hospitalized.” There are a number of symptoms commonly associated with carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Weakness
- Nausea
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Seizures
One of the best ways to prevent accidental CO poisoning is by installing CO monitors. If these devices fail for some reason, this could lead to someone being seriously injured or killed. The company that made a CO alarm that failed could be liable if it malfunctioned. Companies have a legal obligation to create products that are reasonably safe. They should not create products that may have blind spots. It is important that certain steps are taken after any carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
- Medical records related to the incident should be observed.
- It should be determined if a CO alarm malfunctioned.
- An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.
It can be hard to know where to begin after any carbon monoxide poisoning. Victims often suffer very serious injuries. In many cases, long-term exposure to CO can lead to irreversible brain injuries. Sadly, though, companies that manufacture CO alarms will do everything in their power to deny responsibility if their alarms fail. Any person injured in a CO poisoning may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
